GMC installs CCTV Cameras to Combat Illegal Garbage Dumping

Guwahati: The Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC) has installed CCTV cameras in areas where garbage is unlawfully dumped along municipal roads to combat illegal garbage dumping in the city. The GMC conducted a raid on individuals and institutions in the 48 model wards area who violated sanitation standards by dumping rubbish on the roads. The GMC sealed and suspended Singh Store's licence for disposing of garbage near the streets in the Last Gate region's Harijan Colony.

Housing and Urban Affairs Minister Ashok Singhal has urged citizens to keep Guwahati clean and be mindful of littering in the city. He has encouraged all residents to volunteer as ward cleaning guards and has directed GMC officials to install CCTV cameras in areas where garbage is commonly dumped to identify and penalize offenders. On March 29, Singhal announced that the installation of new CCTV cameras throughout Guwahati was underway, and fines for traffic violations by vehicles were imposed after reviewing cameras installed at signals.

The GMC's efforts to combat illegal garbage dumping in Guwahati have been ongoing, with a focus on raising public awareness and education. The GMC has conducted awareness campaigns and workshops to educate citizens on the importance of proper waste disposal and maintaining cleanliness in the city. The installation of CCTV cameras is another step towards achieving a cleaner and more hygienic Guwahati.
