Guwahati: On March 24, a ceremony was held at the Srimanta Sankardev Kalakhetra in Guwahati to recognize individuals who have made notable contributions in various fields. The ceremony was organized by the state government, and it was attended by the Assam Governor, Gulab Chand Kataria, and the state Chief Minister, Himanta Biswa Sarma.
Dr. Tapan Saikia, a renowned medical practitioner, was awarded the highest civilian award in Assam, the 'Assam Baibhav', for his exceptional work in generating cancer awareness and early detection in Assam and other northeastern states. The award recognizes individuals who have made significant contributions to society and demonstrated outstanding achievements in their respective fields. Dr. Saikia's contributions to the field of healthcare were acknowledged and appreciated by the state government, and he was presented with the prestigious award by the Governor.
Apart from Dr. Saikia, 21 other civilians were also honored with three state civilian awards for their distinguished service. The 'Assam Saurav' award, which recognizes excellence in art and culture, sports, science, healthcare, and public service, was presented to five eminent personalities. Krishna Roy was recognized for his contribution to art and culture, Gilbartson Sangma and Smt Nayanmoni Saikia for their achievements in sports, Dr. Binoy Kumar Saikia for his contribution to science, and Dr. Sashidhar Phukan for his notable work in healthcare and public service.
In addition to the 'Assam Baibhav' and 'Assam Saurav' awards, 15 individuals were awarded the 'Assam Gaurav' award for their exceptional contributions in various fields such as public service, agriculture and allied sectors, tourism, social work, entrepreneurship, horticulture, and more. The award ceremony was a fitting tribute to these individuals who have dedicated their lives to serving their community and making a positive impact on society.
