| Zubeen Garg Banned by AAKRASU for Opposing Kamatapur State |
Guwahati: The All Assam Koch Rajbongshi Students Union (AAKRASU) has recently banned popular singer Zubeen Garg due to his comments opposing the creation of a separate state called "Kamatapur". According to the general secretary of AAKRASU, singers like Garg should not comment on issues that they are not well-informed about. AAKRASU has also expressed their opposition to Garg's performances in their district.
This ban comes after AAKRASU's protest in January demanding the creation of a separate state of Kamtapur and the granting of tribal status to Koch Rajbongshis in Golokganj, Dhubri. The protest was carried out to draw attention to the demands of the community.
During a recent performance at Namoni Assam Mohatsav in Goalpara, Garg expressed his opposition to the idea of a separate Kamatapur state, stating that political parties such as the Congress and the BJP were trying to divide the state through their "divide and rule" policies. His comments were reportedly seen as anti-Kamatapur by AAKRASU, which led to the ban.
This incident highlights the ongoing demands for separate states and recognition of tribal communities in the state of Assam. It also highlights the sensitivity of such issues and the need for careful consideration of one's words when commenting on them.
