Sleepless Nights and Stray Bullets: How an Indian Air Force Shooting Range is Terrorizing an Assam Village

Guwahati: Residents of Notungaon village in the Jorhat district of Assam are living in fear of stray bullets that have been causing damage to their property and risking their lives. The situation has become so severe that a minor child has already escaped unhurt from a wild bullet fired from a shooting range located near the village. The villagers allege that Indian Air Force personnel practice their shooting skills in the range, causing the bullets to stray into their village.

The village is located near an Air Force base in Jorhat, and every time the Air Force personnel conduct their firing exercise, bullets come flying into the village, causing significant damage to the property. The villagers are distressed, and they have submitted a formal complaint to the authorities in the past. Following this, two individuals came for a survey and increased the boundary wall to around six feet, but the issue has not been resolved yet.

One of the villagers said that they have to change their roofs every one to two years due to the damage caused by stray bullets. During the shooting exercise, the villagers do not allow their children to step out of their homes. While the residents are terrified and are pleading with the government and the Indian Air Force to take necessary precautions to safeguard the children and people of the area, the youngsters are excited.

This is a serious issue, and the villagers are requesting that necessary steps are taken to ensure their safety.
