In the 2023 edition of the tournament, Lovlina Borgohain, a highly skilled female boxer from India, managed to secure her spot in the finals after defeating Li Qian, a two-time Olympic medalist from China, in a 4-1 split decision. This victory marked a significant milestone for Lovlina, who will now compete in the IBA women's Boxing championship final for the first time in her career.

Prior to this match, Lovlina had already secured India's fourth medal by winning against Adosinda Gamane Rady of Mozambique in the middleweight category. This victory allowed her to advance to the semi-finals, where she was able to secure her place in the finals by beating Li Qian.

In addition to Lovlina's impressive performance, Nikhar Zareen, another talented Indian boxer, won her semi-final match against Colombia's Ingrid Valencia, ensuring India at least a silver medal in the 50kg category.
