| Police Seize Yaba Tablets Worth INR 15 Crores in Cachar |
Guwahati: On March 23, the police in Cachar, Assam made a significant drug seizure in Silchar city. The police acted on confidential information and intercepted a Duster car with registration number MZ-01U-7350 in Silchar city. Upon searching the car, the police found 15 packets containing 150,000 Yaba tablets hidden under the spare tire in the trunk of the car. Yaba is a combination of methamphetamine and caffeine and is a popular drug in South and Southeast Asia. The police arrested a 33-year-old man named Lalsawmliana from Aizawl, Mizoram, in connection with the seizure.
The street value of the narcotics material seized in the operation is estimated to be approximately INR 15 crores. The seized drugs are suspected to have been smuggled from Myanmar through the Champai district of Mizoram. The consignment was likely intended for sale in different parts of India, including Assam and other northeastern states.
The suspect and the seized drugs have been taken into police custody, and legal proceedings under the NDPS Act have been initiated. The Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act is a law in India that regulates controlled substances and aims to curb drug abuse and trafficking in the country.
In a related development, on March 22, the Assam Rifles and Customs department recovered 39,04,000 illegal Triprolidine HCL and Pseudoephedrine HCL tablets worth INR 390.4 crores near the Indo-Myanmar border in Ruantlang Village, Champhai District. Acting on specific information, a joint team of Assam Rifles and Customs officials made the seizure. One person was arrested in connection with the seizure.
This seizure is one of the largest drug busts made by security forces in Mizoram. These operations are part of the Indian government's efforts to crack down on the illegal drug trade in the country, which has been a significant concern in recent years.
