Guwahati: The All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) at Changsari in Assam is set to be inaugurated on April 14 by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. This will be the first AIIMS to be established in the state of Assam, and it is a significant milestone for the healthcare sector in the region.
To ensure that everything is in order for the inauguration, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, along with other officials, visited the site on March 23 to assess the preparations. Earlier on March 3, the Health Minister Keshab Mahanta and Chief Secretary Paban Kumar Barthakur reviewed the progress of the medical institution with top officials from AIIMS and Kamrup district administration.
They directed the officials to complete the work by March 31, 2023. The construction work is currently almost complete, with 90% of the work done, and 18 departments are already functional, including the Out Patient Department (OPD). The CM stated that the hospital's construction is progressing at full speed, and preparations are being made to ensure that the hospital is fully operational as soon as possible.
In December 2022, the chief minister announced that AIIMS, Guwahati, will also be officially inaugurated in 2023, further enhancing the healthcare infrastructure in the region. During this announcement, he also highlighted several other upcoming projects in Guwahati while attending the Namghor Samaroh in North Guwahati.
The establishment of AIIMS in Assam is an essential development for the state's healthcare sector, as it will provide state-of-the-art medical facilities to the people of Assam and the surrounding regions. It is expected to provide affordable and high-quality healthcare services, making a significant impact on the lives of many individuals.
