| Assam's Board of Secondary Education Orders Re-examination for 760 Students Due to Cheating Allegations |
Guwahati: The Board of Secondary Education in Assam, also known as SEBA, has taken action against students who allegedly cheated during the HSLC (High School Leaving Certificate) examination. The SEBA has directed 760 students from JR Higher Secondary School in Cachar district to retake the Compartmental examination for the English subject in 2023 due to suspicions of cheating and malpractices during the March 3 examination. This is a significant development, as the English answer scripts of the students from this examination center will not be evaluated, affecting their overall performance in the exam.
The Assam Chief Minister, Himanta Biswa Sarma, had taken note of the cheating incidents and paper leaks during the examination and directed SEBA to take action against the examination centers where such incidents were occurring. The SEBA has responded by taking action against the JR Higher Secondary School in Cachar district.
Moreover, the HSLC examination in Assam has been hit by a series of cheating allegations and paper leaks, raising concerns about the SEBA's security measures. On the second day of the examination, the Mathematics question paper was leaked in Cachar district, and the pictures of the question paper went viral on social media platforms within 15 minutes of the exam's start. It is believed that the pictures of the question paper were leaked from an examination center in Lakhipur. The Cachar Education Department has not yet commented on the paper leak incident.
On the first day of the exam, the English question paper was reportedly leaked from Barpeta district. However, SEBA's Secretary and Exam Controller Narnarayan Nath dismissed the reports as false and baseless, claiming that the question paper went viral on social media almost two hours after the exam started.
These incidents of cheating and paper leaks during the HSLC examination have raised serious concerns about the SEBA's security measures to ensure a fair and transparent examination process for students. The SEBA needs to take prompt and effective action to prevent such incidents from occurring in the future to maintain the integrity of the examination and ensure that students are evaluated fairly based on their abilities and performance.
