Assam Tourism and Flybig Sign MoU to Improve Air Connectivity in the State

Guwahati: Assam's tourism industry is set to get a boost as the state tourism development corporation and Flybig have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to improve air connectivity within the state. The MoU aims to create new air routes between Guwahati-Dibrugarh-Guwahati and Guwahati-Silchar-Guwahati under non-UDAN (Ude Desh Ka Aam Nagrik) routes.

Under the agreement, Flybig will operate daily direct flights between Guwahati and Dibrugarh as well as Guwahati and Silchar. The move comes as the central UDAN scheme is not available in these two cities, which led the state government to sign the MoU with Flybig.

Flybig already operates under the UDAN scheme in several other routes in Assam. However, the new non-UDAN routes will improve air connectivity and provide better accessibility to tourists and travelers within the state. The state government has also capped the ticket prices for these new flights at Rs 4000 to ensure affordability for everyone.

The Chief Minister of Assam, Himanta Biswa Sarma, attended the MoU signing event and announced the new flights. He also mentioned that the state government is considering starting air connectivity in other districts of the state, including Jorhat, Lakhimpur, and Tezpur.

Furthermore, the Assam CM has stated that the state government will bear the cost of any unsold tickets, ensuring that the new air routes remain financially sustainable. This move will provide a boost to the state's economy and enhance connectivity between different parts of Assam.
