IMD Predicts Scattered Rainfall and Thunderstorms Across Northeastern India

Guwahati: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a weather update for various regions in India. According to IMD, several parts of Assam are expected to receive scattered to fairly widespread light/moderate rainfall activity with thunderstorms and lightning over the next five days.

However, the Western Himalayan Region is likely to be impacted by an ongoing western disturbance and an induced cyclonic circulation over southwest Rajasthan and its neighborhood in lower tropospheric levels. These systems are expected to affect the region on Saturday and then weaken on Sunday.

In contrast, Northeastern India may experience strengthened weather activity from Sunday onwards, and another western disturbance is expected to commence next week, impacting the Western Himalayan Region starting Thursday.

During this time, IMD warns that there may be isolated heavy rainfall over Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, and Meghalaya on March 27-29. The scattered to fairly widespread light/moderate rainfall and thunderstorm activity is also predicted over Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim on March 25-26, and over Jharkhand, Bihar, Gangetic West Bengal, and Odisha on March 26-27, due to the above systems.

IMD advises people to stay alert and take necessary precautions during thunderstorms and lightning. This includes avoiding open areas and tall trees, staying indoors if possible, and unplugging electrical appliances to avoid damage from lightning strikes.

Overall, IMD's weather update highlights the potential for rainfall, thunderstorms, and lightning in various regions of India over the next few days. People in the affected areas should stay informed of weather updates and take necessary precautions to stay safe.
