| 12-Year-Old Girl Raped By Fish Seller Multiple Times; 2 Months Pregnant |
Guwahati: On Friday, Assam police arrested a 25-year-old man named Babul Ahmed for allegedly raping a 12-year-old girl multiple times over the last three months in Bamunimaidan area of Guwahati. Ahmed worked as a fish seller in the victim's locality and reportedly committed the crime when the victim's mother went to work and left the girl alone at home. The victim's mother later found out about the incidents and filed a complaint with the police, resulting in Ahmed fleeing to Barpeta.
However, Ahmed was eventually arrested by the police from Baghbar Maharipam village in the Barpeta district. During the investigation, the police discovered that the victim was two months pregnant. It was also learned that Ahmed lived as a tenant at the victim's house.
In addition, last week, Guwahati police arrested another man named Diganta Das, who was accused of raping a 13-year-old girl in the Birubari area. Das was apprehended from the Jalukbari area.
These incidents highlight the alarming rate of sexual assault against minors in the state and the urgent need for stricter enforcement of laws to protect children.
