WA Sports: At the Grand Prix-1 athletics event on March 20, Hima Das won a gold medal in the 200m race by completing it in 23.79 seconds, defeating Aishwarya Kailash Mishra (24.81) of Maharashtra and VK Vismaya (24.82) of Kerala. The event took place at the Laxmibai National College of Physical Education.
Ancy Sojan won the women's long jump event with a best effort of 6.49m, surpassing the 6.45m mark required for the Asian Games qualifying standard. There were only two competitors each in the women's high jump and men's triple jump events. The men's 400m hurdles had four competitors, the women's 400m hurdles had three competitors with one being disqualified later, the women's shot put had three competitors, the women's 800m had three competitors, and the women's 5000m had three participants.
Krishan Kumar from Haryana won the men's 800m race with a time of 1:47.26, his second-best time over the distance, by accelerating himself to reach the halfway mark. In the men's 5000m race, three runners from Uttar Pradesh finished within the Asian Games qualifying mark of 14:00.00.
