Assam Police Seize Large Quantity of Banned Cough Syrup in Gossaigaon

Guwahati: On March 26th, the Assam Police received specific information and conducted a search operation in Gossaigaon, where they discovered a large quantity of banned phensedyl cough syrup. The illegal items were hidden under sacks of onions in a truck that had arrived from West Bengal.

The confiscated cough syrup is estimated to be worth around Rs 1 crore in the international market. Phensedyl is a cough syrup that contains the narcotic drug codeine, which is banned in India due to its high abuse potential. Codeine can cause addiction and dependence, and its misuse can lead to serious health problems.

The police arrested two individuals, Anek and Uday Pratap Singh, in connection with the seizure. The authorities are investigating whether the two suspects were part of a larger drug smuggling operation.

The illegal drug trade is a significant problem in India, and authorities have been stepping up their efforts to combat it. The Assam Police's success in intercepting this shipment of banned cough syrup demonstrates their commitment to curbing the illegal drug trade and protecting public health.
