PM Modi Greets Arrival of 12 Cheetahs in Kuno National Park

New Delhi: On Saturday, the Indian Air Force's Mi-17 helicopters carried the second batch of 12 cheetahs to Kuno National Park, which were welcomed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday. The big cats made a 10-hour long journey in the Indian Air Force's C-17 Globemaster cargo plane from Johannesburg, South Africa, where they were originally from.

Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan released the 12 cheetahs in Kuno National Park and expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Modi for his vision for conserving the environment. He added that the earlier batch of cheetahs has adapted well to the situation in the park. The cheetahs are being brought to India as part of the Cheetah Reintroduction project, which is based on a memorandum of understanding (MoU) signed between the South African and Indian governments.

The project aims to establish a viable and secure cheetah population in India and promote conservation efforts by exchanging expertise and building capacity. The MoU facilitates cooperation between the two countries to promote cheetah conservation, including human-wildlife conflict resolution, capture and translocation of wildlife, and community participation in conservation efforts in both countries.

Prime Minister Modi tweeted that the arrival of the cheetahs in Kuno National Park is a significant development that enhances India's wildlife diversity. The cheetahs' arrival is expected to boost eco-tourism and contribute to the conservation efforts of the park. The Cheetah Reintroduction project is a step towards restoring the country's natural habitat and reviving its ecosystem, ensuring a better future for the country's wildlife.
