Srirampur Police Seize Foreign Cigarettes Worth Lakhs of Rupees During Truck Raid

Guwahati: In the first incident mentioned, the Srirampur police conducted a routine check at the Bengal border and discovered a truck loaded with bamboo that was also carrying a significant quantity of foreign cigarettes worth several lakhs of rupees. The police arrested two individuals and the truck driver in connection with the seizure, which was a significant victory for the Srirampur police in their efforts to combat illegal smuggling activities in the region. The police have vowed to continue their efforts to maintain law and order and protect the community from such activities.

In the second incident mentioned, the Customs division and the Assam Rifles conducted a joint operation in January of this year and discovered foreign cigarettes worth Rs 1.57 crore in Mizoram's Tlangsam hamlet. The operation was conducted after receiving specific information, and the seizures were made during two separate operations along the Indo-Myanmar border. This successful collaboration between the two agencies demonstrates their commitment to fighting illegal smuggling and protecting public health by curbing the trade of such items.

The illegal trade of foreign cigarettes poses a significant threat to public health, as these products may not meet the safety and quality standards established by the government. Therefore, it is crucial for law enforcement agencies to crack down on such activities and prevent the distribution of these harmful products. The efforts of the Srirampur police and the joint operation by the Customs division and the Assam Rifles are commendable in this regard and serve as an example for other agencies to follow.
