Rhino Poaching Returns to Kaziranga National Park in Assam After Four Years

Guwahati: A rhinoceros carcass was discovered in Kaziranga National Park, Assam, on March 27th by officials from the forest department. Upon closer examination, it was found that the rhino's horn was missing, leading officials to suspect that the rhino was killed by poachers. The carcass was discovered in the Bagori range of the park, and officials believe that the rhino was killed by poachers three or four days prior.

This is the first case of rhino poaching reported in Assam this year and the first in the Bagori and Burhapahar ranges of the national park since 2018. The Assam Government has taken strong measures to protect the state animal from poaching, but this latest incident shows that more work needs to be done to combat the illegal wildlife trade.

Kaziranga National Park is known for its population of one-horned rhinoceroses, and poachers often target the animals for their valuable horns. The Assam Government has implemented various measures to protect the animals, including increasing patrols and implementing harsh penalties for poachers.

This latest incident underscores the importance of continued efforts to combat rhino poaching and protect these endangered animals from extinction.
